Moving again.

About ready to plant this flower in the ground somewhere.

Yeah right.

Looks like Denver.

downhillamor said: Hello miss! How'd you get into hula hooping? What hoop would you recommend for a starter?

Answer privately, or post?  Answer privately, or post?  Hmmm….

A girl named Kat gave one to me at sunrise in a secret ADVENTURE location only released earlier that night.  The music was welcoming the sun, and I was letting other people “ride my skateboard in the sand”.  I had just gotten a Loaded Dervish about a month previously and learned how to cross step in switch a week or two before at a slide jam, and I was obsessed.  Once you can cross step in switch, you realize there other cross step options as well.  I put a blanket on the ground to protect my bearings and dug out little spots for the wheels to sit in.  I got tons of girls (and dudes) to “ride” and everyone was smiling, except for like 4 dudes that wondered “but can you kick-flip that?”  Mostly though, I learned to let go of the notion of the front of my board, and thought of it as a dance platform instead.  Since it was stationary, it opened up my movements, and it translates to skating in that I try to stay as symmetrical as I can in my skating, whether it be on the flat or on a hill.  (Although I only downhill in goofy. Fast and switch is scary.  I don’t like to fall.)

So anyway, at 1 AM I brought my skateboard to the dance floor, and at 6 am, Kat handed me her hula hoop to play with as the sun was rising.  ”Well what do I do with it?”  I said.  ”I dunno, just try stuff”.  And I did.

It was big.  Huge.  Way bigger than one at a toy store.  It’s made out of irrigation tubing.  The bigger, the easier to learn.  I would suggest finding one from the nearest hippy gathering or music festival.

Mine is small.  Almost too small… but sketchy hula hooping is fun to me. Which means everything has to be exact for it to work. But just like longboarding… longer/bigger is better to start, smaller is faster and takes more precision and skill, but is more fun if you can flow, annnnd, it’s easier to carry around.

Post.

Will hula for mula.
